Turkey Signals Drone Cooperation with Japan in UAV Development

(MENAFN) Türkiye has expressed readiness to work closely with Japan in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan pointing to major opportunities for joint production and technological collaboration that could benefit both sides.

According to reports, Fidan underlined Türkiye’s rapid rise as a significant player in the drone industry and said Ankara is keen to strengthen its defense industry ties with Tokyo, especially in advanced aerospace technologies.

He noted that the two countries possess complementary strengths that could form the basis of deeper cooperation in high-tech defense sectors.

"Türkiye and Japan have complementary capabilities, and we believe there is strong potential for mutually beneficial collaboration,” he said.

The minister further emphasized that Turkish drone systems have already been tested in various operational conditions, arguing that this experience could support joint development efforts and shared manufacturing initiatives between the two nations.

“In aviation, particularly in unmanned aerial systems and anti-drone technologies, Türkiye has developed advanced and field-tested capabilities that could provide a strong basis for collaboration,” the minister said.

Fidan also pointed to ongoing discussions between the two countries regarding a social security agreement, saying that negotiations have advanced and expressing optimism that a deal could be finalized in the near future.
