Turkish Space Firm Fergani Sends Fifth Satellite into Orbit
The 113-kilogram satellite lifted off at 2:02 p.m. Türkiye time (11:02 GMT) from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California as part of SpaceX’s Transporter-16 mission. Sixty-six minutes later, at 3:08 p.m. Türkiye time (12:08 GMT), the satellite separated from the launch vehicle and was placed into its target orbit at an altitude of 500–520 kilometers (310–323 miles).
The launch was closely monitored by Fergani Space from the Space Observation and Control Center at the Ozdemir Bayraktar National Technology Center in Istanbul. Equipped with advanced communications and navigation systems, FGN-100-D3 has now begun operations in orbit.
Selcuk Bayraktar, Baykar’s chairman and chief technology officer, highlighted on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal that the satellite represents a “work beyond the horizon.” He noted that FGN-100-D3 incorporates key technologies developed entirely in-house, including a reaction wheel, magnetic torque rod, magnetometer, inertial measurement unit, and GNSS receiver, marking a significant technological advancement over previous Fergani satellites.
