Oman Confirms Start of New US-Iran Nuclear Talks in Geneva

(MENAFN) Oman confirmed on Thursday the commencement of a new round of indirect nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States in Geneva, as stated by reports.

The discussions coincided with a meeting between Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi. The Omani minister emphasized the “professional and technical” role of the IAEA and stressed “the need to ensure transparency, credibility, and proper governance of the relevant procedures.”

Leading Iran’s delegation is Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, supported by Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi and a team of nuclear and legal experts. The American delegation, as in previous rounds, is headed by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

This marks the third round of indirect talks under Omani mediation, following two earlier rounds last month, which resumed nuclear diplomacy after regional efforts, including those by Türkiye, sought to reduce tensions. After the previous round in Geneva, following an initial meeting in Muscat, both sides offered positive assessments and agreed on “guiding principles” that Iran’s negotiators said could help pave the way toward a potential deal.

The talks take place amid a significant US military buildup in the Persian Gulf and recent drills conducted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
