Israel’s EU Ambassador Criticizes Nations’ Remarks
Israel has faced increasing criticism over the ongoing conflict, with multiple Western nations recently declaring plans to recognize a Palestinian state and, in certain cases, scaling back military or trade relations with Israel.
In a recent interview with a news outlet, published on Wednesday, Regev stated that certain EU nations were “obsessed” with Israel's human rights situation, identifying Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovenia as the most unjust in their assessments.
He also criticized France, Germany, and the UK for making remarks that, according to him, benefit Hamas and anti-Semitic groups.
Regev emphasized that Israel should be seen as an ideal partner for the EU, highlighting the country's democratic values, its lack of migration problems, and its protection of LGBTQ+ rights.
He further remarked, "Israel is the only player in the region that serves directly the interests of the EU."
The ambassador warned that efforts by EU countries to pressure Israel over the Gaza conflict would prove ineffective and only harm bilateral relations.
He also suggested that such actions would diminish the EU’s influence in the Middle East, noting that measures like suspending Israel from EU research programs or reducing trade would likely lead to a situation where the EU would have a diminished role in the region’s future.
