Israel’s EU ambassador condemns EU’s ‘obsession’ with human rights
In an interview with Politico, Regev accused certain EU countries, including Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Slovenia, of being particularly unfair, while claiming France, Germany, and the UK make statements that aid Hamas and anti-Semitic agendas. He portrayed Israel as an ideal EU partner, highlighting its democratic governance, absence of migration issues, and protection of LGBTQ rights, asserting that Israel directly serves EU interests in the region.
Regev warned that any EU attempts to pressure Israel—such as suspending its participation in research programs or reducing trade—would fail and damage European influence in the Middle East. He further claimed that Europe is returning to times of widespread anti-Semitism, making it unsafe to be Jewish in the region.
The Gaza conflict, which began in 2023 after Hamas attacks on Israel, has resulted in over 61,000 Palestinian deaths, while around 1,200 people were killed in Israel. The UN has highlighted rising famine risks in Gaza, with more than 200 people, including 98 children, reportedly dying from malnutrition.
